Monitoring of the elections to the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan continues in Astana.

Members of the IPA CIS Observers Team headed by Coordinator Ilyas Umakhanov held a meeting with Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Tokaev and representatives of the Senate in the course of the short-term monitoring.

In his opening speech Kasym-Zhomart Tokaev informed the members of the Observers Team about the increased role of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the public administration system as an outcome of the constitutional reform undertaken in 2017, as well as about the current election campaign.

The IPA CIS Observers Team Coordinator Ilyas Umakhanov informed the participants about the results of the monitoring and submitted the materials related to the long-term monitoring, noting in particular the positive role of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations, and underlined the importance of the IPA CIS for the development of regional cooperation.

The IPA CIS Observers Team also held a meeting with the members of the Central Elections Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan headed by Chairman Berik Imashev.
