Draft CIS Concept of Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories Presented in Bishkek

The International Research and Practice Conference “Environmental and Socio-Economic Security as a Factor of Sustainable Mountain Development” held in the capital of Kyrgyzstan discussed the draft CIS Concept of Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories being developed by the IPA CIS. The document is a practical guide to policy making in the field of development and protection of mountain territories.

The conference was held at the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic from 19 to 21 January. Leading researchers, representatives of public authorities, educational and research institutions, non-governmental organizations of the Commonwealth countries discussed socio-economic and environmental challenges of mountain countries and considered their practical solutions in view of new global threats.

Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Natalia Amburtseva addressed the conference with a report “IPA CIS Activities in the Field of Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories”.

The conference resulted in recommendations on necessary measures for sustainable development of mountain regions.
