IPA CIS Representative Tells About Model Law-Making in CIS Librarianship Development

A press-conference dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the National Library of Russia and international library cooperation took place in the TASS news agency within the XV St. Petersburg International Book Salon, which is held online this year.

Director of the A. Akhundov Azerbaijan National Library Kerim Takhirov, Director of the Brest City Central Library of A. Pushkin Svetlana Gorodetskaya, Director General of the National Library of Russia Alexander Vershinin and Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Culture, Information, Tourism and Sport Konstantin Pshenko reported on joint projects and prospects of interlibrary cooperation via videoconferencing.

Directors shared the information on the impact of the pandemic on libraries’ operation, how they are dealing with this situation, their interaction with readers and maintaining international projects.

Konstantin Pshenko congratulated the National Library of Russia on the 225th anniversary and told about the IPA CIS legislative framework facilitating the librarianship. He mentioned the Model Law on Mandatory Reference Copy of Documents of 13 May 1995 and the Model Librarianship Code for Member Nations of the CIS of 25 November 2016, and noted that the IPA CIS was working on the draft Recommendations on Setting Common Approach on Providing Mandatory Reference Electronic Copy in CIS, which will facilitate building of the common information space and development of national e-libraries.
