Importance and Problems of Environmental Monitoring in Commonwealth Discussed in Tavricheskiy Palace

Today a meeting of the IPA CIS  Advisory Board on Ecology and Environmental Management was held by Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Stepan Kalmykov.

Deputy Head of the Federal Service for State Registration, Cadastre and Cartography Elena Martynova, told about the creation of the Geoportal of spatial data infrastructure of the CIS countries.

The Geoportal is a unified cartographic basis of the CIS countries. It displays cartographic, semantic and many other thematic layers, by which users can identify a selected geographical object.

Head of the Federal State Budgetary Institution ”North-West Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Directorate“ Inna Sazonova made a presentation on the functioning and perspectives of development of the state observation network on atmospheric air pollution.

Chair of the St. Petersburg Government Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety Ivan Serebritsky, spoke about the establishment of the territorial observation network in St. Petersburg.

Director of the “Institute of Geology” branch of the Republican Unitary Enterprise “Research and Production Centre for Geology” of the Republic of Belarus Svetlana Demidova told about the results of cooperation between the Governments of Belarus and Russia in the field of protection and rational use of transboundary water bodies.

Member of the Committee on Agrarian Issues, Environmental Management and Rural Development of the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sultan Dyusembinov told about how environmental control is carried out in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

At the meeting the problems of analytical methods of ecomonitoring were discussed.

Senior fellow at the St. Petersburg Research Centre for Environmental Safety of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Alena Kodolova, spoke about the draft Model Law On Environmental Monitoring, which aims to improve the system of state regulation in this area and modernise the hydrometeorological observation network.

The members of the Council considered the draft Recommendations to local self-government bodies on the implementation of the state environmental policy at the local level. At the meeting Chief Scientist, Head of the Laboratory of Economic Problems of Environmental Safety of the St. Petersburg Scientific Research Centre for Ecological Safety of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladislav Donchenko was awarded the anniversary medal “IPA CIS. 30 years”.
