Experts will Develop Criteria for Defining Parameters of Mountain Areas

On 21 December, under the leadership of Deputy Minister of Regional Development of the Russian Federation Sergey Nazarov, a meeting of the working group on the issue of preservation and development of mountain territories was held.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Transport, the Federal Road Agency, the Ministry of Energy, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Civic Chamber of Russia, the Dagestan State University of National Economy, the Vladikavkaz Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Dagestan Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and relevant organizations.

The Ministry of Energy of Russia needs to present a report on the issue of preservation and development of mountain territories to the Government of Russia. The experts instructed the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences to submit the criteria for determining the parameters of mountain territories by 20 January 2024 to all members of the working group for further discussion.

Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Natalia Amburtseva took part in the working group meeting.

The working group was formed by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation in fulfillment of the instruction of Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin.

The development of mountainous areas is an urgent topic for many regions of the Russian Federation. About 30 percent of the country's area is mountainous. We would like to remind you that on 12-13 October the International Forum “Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories” was held in the headquarters of the IPA CIS - Tavricheskiy Palace.
