A Number of Bilateral Meetings Held on Margins of Third Eurasian Women’s Forum

Today, on the margins of the Third Eurasian Women’s Forum, women parliamentarians met with colleagues from other countries and representatives of international organizations. They discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as countering the consequences of the pandemic.

In particular, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko held bilateral meetings with Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Sahiba Gafarova and Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva. The parties discussed the issues of parliamentary cooperation, as well as interaction at international platforms, in particular, within the framework of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.

Valentina Matvienko also met with President of the Central American Parliament Fanny Carolina Salinas Fernandez. Speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament supported PARLASEN’s initiative to create a Eurasian-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly, stressing that the project deserved development in terms of facilitating the dialogue mechanisms between the Eurasian integration space and the Latin American region.

Moreover, Sahiba Gafarova and Tanzila Narbaeva met with UN Women Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia Alia El-Yassir, Tanzila Narbaeva and Moldovan MP Zinaida Greceanîi met with Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Pia Kauma.

On the same day, IPA CIS Council Secretary General Dmitriy Kobitskiy met with President of the Central American Parliament Fanny Carolina Salinas Fernandez. During the meeting, Dmitriy Kobitskiy spoke about the IPA CIS activities and the current trends in the CIS model law-making and told about other major congress events taking place in the Tavricheskiy Palace.

Fanny Carolina Fernandez noted that she attached great importance to the development of bilateral dialogue between the PARLASEN and the IPA CIS. The parties expressed interest in exchanging experience, including in terms of monitoring the elections.
