Plenary Session of Third Eurasian Women’s Forum Takes Place in Tavricheskiy Palace

The Plenary Session of the Third Eurasian Women’s Forum opened in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters. It brought together the representatives of governments and parliaments, prominent public figures, representatives of academic and cultural circles from over 70 countries of the world.

Opening the Plenary Session, Chairperson of the IPA CIC Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko noted among the key objectives of the Forum the development of post-COVID recovery approaches and wide-scale vaccination programs, as well as the participation of women in the cutting-edge areas of social development.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Viktoria Abramchenko drew particular attention to the environmental agenda and outlined the main objectives in this area, notably the introduction of lean consumption and waste reduction, minimization of accumulated damage as a result of the activities of enterprises, the fight against climatic change and its impact, such as permafrost degradation, tornadoes, ice rains and droughts.

Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Sahiba Gafarova pointed out that women contributed significantly to international activities to tackle the most pressing challenges, including the mitigation of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as fight for peace, security and sustainable development.

Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzilla Narbaeva informed the participants of the Forum on the Republic’s progress in achieving gender equality and expanding women’s participation in political and social life of the country.

Speaker of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova in her online message also noted that women were represented in all bodies of public authorities of the Republic.

The Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic was represented by Deputy Speaker Aida Kasymalieva, who noted the particularly important role of women in shaping the parliamentary agenda, stressing that without making gender-sensitive decisions and laws it was impossible to achieve effective results in various areas of social development.

Deputy Chair of the People’s Democratic Party of the Republic of Tajikistan, Chair of the National Committee on Population and Development Khairiniso Yusufi noted the high representativity at the Forum, which proved the demand for the event not only at the regional, but also at the global level.

The event was also attended by Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Vo Thi An Xuan, Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique Esperança Laurinda Francisco Bias, Speaker of the National Assembly of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Pia Kauma, etc.
