Amendments to Law on Elections of President and Members of Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyz Republic Approved

On 28 July 2021, the MPs of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyz Republic considered the draft Constitutional Law on Amendments to the Constitutional Law on Elections of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The amendments are aimed at bringing the current electoral legislation in line with the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic adopted by referendum on 11 April 2021, as well as its further improvement.

According to the press service of the Jogorku Kenesh, during the discussion, the MPs drew attention to the issue of maintaining the women’s quota and preventing the parties previously involved in illegal vote-buying from participating in the elections. In addition, the MPs noted the need to reduce the electoral threshold down to five percent.
