Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Republic of Uzbekistan Adopts Draft Law on Genomic Registration of Citizens in Second Reading

On 14 October 2020, members of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan at a regular meeting discussed and adopted the Draft Law on State Genomic Registration in the second reading.

The document defines the authorized bodies, their rights and obligations in the field of state genomic registration, outlines basic requirements for the collection, processing and protection of genomic information, regulates the procedure for obtaining, recording, storing, using and destroying biological material and genomic information.

According to the MPs, the introduction of a mechanism for disclosing crimes based on genomic information databases will help in the investigation of the most complex, especially grave and unsolved crimes, and will also contribute to finding missing persons.
