Mandatory Labeling Requirements to Be Included in Draft Model Law on Organic Products

The IPA CIS Working Group on the preparation of Model Law on Organic Agriculture considered the comments received from the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the State Duma of Russian Federation and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus.

The members of the Working Group supported the proposals of the Kazakh MPs to include in the draft document articles on mandatory requirements for labeling of organic products, as well as on state control of organic production.

The Working Group also supported the proposals of Russian MPs on amendments to the article on the basic requirements for the production of organic products, whichinclude the isolation of production, a ban on the use of agrochemicals, pesticides, antibiotics, growth stimulants, hormonal drugs, a ban on the use of embryo transplantation, cloning, genetically modified and transgenic organisms, a ban on the use of hydroponic cultivation and the use of ionizing radiation, and others.

The work on the document will be continued.
