Mazhilis of Parliament of Republic of Kazakhstan Adopts Draft Law Supporting Renewable Energy

Today, the plenary session of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan chaired by Nurlan Nigmatulin adopted the amendments on the issues of supporting the use of renewable energy sources and renewable power generation.

According to the Mazhilis press-service, the draft law provides for the creation of conditions for building new flexible capacities, which will allow regulating the imbalance in the production and consumption of electricity through Kazakstan’s own capabilities. At the same time, as the developers explained, the selection of projects will be implemented through an auction mechanism. This will reduce the dependence of the electric power system of Kazakhstan on external sources.

The bill also creates favorable conditions for the development of renewable energy by extending the term of the contract for the purchase of renewable energy from 15 to 20 years.
