Valentina Matvienko: Authorities’ Credibility is Largely Determined by Degree of its Openness to Society

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko held a meeting of the Scientific and Expert Council under the Chairperson of the Federation Council on the theme “Trust as a Critical Factor in Achieving the Strategic Goals of the Social, Economic and Political Development of the State”.

According to Valentina Matvienko, the intellectual resource of the Scientific and Expert Council is in great demand today, especially when a serious array of federal and regional legislation is being brought into line with the provisions of the updated Constitution. She suggested developing the necessary steps to increase the level of such trust in Russia.

Valentina Matvienko mentioned stimulating investment activity as one of the priority steps. In her opinion, another way to increase confidence may be the widespread introduction of “people's” budgeting. The Speaker of the Federation Council also believes that it is necessary to provide for a wider introduction of digital tools for feedback.

According to the press service of the Federation Council, the event was attended by the chairpersons of the Federation Council committees, senators, heads and representatives of federal, regional and municipal government bodies, academia, expert and business communities.
