A joint meeting of friendship and cooperation groups of the parliaments of Russia and Germany was held in the Tavricheskiy Palace

8 June, 15th joint meeting of the Group on cooperation of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation with the Bundesrat of the Federal Republic of Germany and the friendship group of the Bundesrat of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation took place in the IPA CIS HQ.
The Head of the Group on cooperation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation with the Bundesrat of the Federal Republic of Germany, member of the Federation Council Committee on the Rules of Procedure and Parliamentary Governance, representative of the legislative authority of the Kamchatka Territory Valery Ponomarev made a welcoming speech. He said their meetings in St. Petersburg within the joint meetings had become an integral part of the Russian-German Interparliamentary interaction, an important discussion platform where ideas aimed at expanding bilateral ties were established. They perceived the emerging intensification of Interparliamentary exchanges in the most positive way, which played an important role in the formation of an atmosphere of bilateral relations.
Chairperson of the friendship group of the Bundesrat of the Federal Republic of Germany with the Federation Council, the Prime Minister of the Federal state of Mecklenburg Vorpommern Manuela Schweizig also noted the importance of Russian-German relations. She said they needed to see together what opportunities there were for expanding cooperation.
The participants discussed the state and perspectives of trade development and economic relations between Russia and Germany, touched upon the issues of legal regulation of recycling, as well as regulation of environmental issues in the Russian Federation at the regional level.
The next meeting of the friendship and cooperation groups of the Federation Council and the German Bundesrat will be held in Potsdam. In 2020 will be celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Potsdam agreement.
The participants agreed that the next meeting will be devoted to the development of rural areas.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, the representative from Executive authority of the Ivanovo Region Valery Vasiliev, Deputy Chair of Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, the representative of the legislative authority of the Ryazan Region Igor Morozov, member of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, representative of the Executive authority of the Tambov Region Alexey Kondratyev.
On the German side, the meeting was attended by member of the German Bundesrat Committee on Health, Care, equality, Deputy Chair of the German-Russian friendship group of the Bundesrat Dilek Kalaizi, Minister of Finance of the Federal state of Brandenburg Christine Gerke, Minister of internal Affairs and municipal economy of the Federal state of Thuringia Georg Mayer, state adviser, Commissioner of the free Hanseatic city of Bremen to the Federal government for cooperation in Europe and development Ulrike Hiller, Secretary of state, Thomas Kralinski, state Secretary, Director of the Bundesrat of the Federal Republic of Germany Ute Rettler, head of the Interparliamentary relations Department of the Bureau of the Bundesrat of the Federal Republic of Germany Klaus Dieter Koggel, Commissioner of the Federal state of Brandenburg under the Federal government.
