Draft Agreement on Establishment of Council of CIS Heads of Supreme (High) Courts Finalized

Today, the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk provided a venue for the meeting of the expert group on negotiating of the draft Agreement on Establishment of the Council of CIS Heads of Supreme (High) Courts held via videoconferencing.

The Agreement was drafted by the Council of Heads of Supreme Arbitration, Commercial, Economic and Other Courts Handling with Economic Cases in order to strengthen cooperation between the judicial authorities of the Commonwealth countries. The document provides for the establishment of the Council of CIS Heads of Supreme (High) Courts and adoption of the Provisions regulating its activity. The Council is established to develop universal principles and rules of cooperation between the courts, its institutional support and facilitation of practical implementation.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the CIS Economic Tribunal, as well as the CIS Executive Committee staff members.

The participants considered the proposals of the CIS countries submitted to the CIS Executive Committee, finalized and approved the draft Agreement with due account to the meeting’s deliberations.

According to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, the draft document was sent to the Commonwealth countries for the approval on the domestic level with the further submission for the consideration of the Council of the CIS Heads of State.
