Pipe organ recital devoted to the 110th anniversary of the Russian parliamentarism took place in the IPA CIS headquarters

A pipe organ performance devoted to the 110th anniversary of the Russian parliamentarism and the 5th anniversary of the pipe organ inauguration in the Tavricheskiy Palace took place in the IPA CIS headquarters. The recital was performed by Juan de la Rubia. He was the very musician who had the honour to perform in the Tavricheskiy Palace 5 years ago when the Spanish organ, the only instrument of this kind in Russia, was presented to Russia.

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Alexey Sergeev welcomed guests of the event. He told the audience that the organ weighed 6 tons, its height was 6 meters and it was composed of 1,447 metal and timber pipes that form 24 organ stops. The pipe organ in the Tavricheskiy Palace has a very particular sound and it differs a lot from other such instruments in the country.

The recital was attended by member of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin, First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Nikolay Fedorov, members of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, members of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, heads of regional legislative bodies.

First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation reminded that the first pipe organ appeared in the Tavricheskiy Palace at the times of Prince Potemkin. ‘Today, we are continuing this 200-year-old cultural tradition’ he added.

After the recital, Nikolay Fedorov awarded Juan de la Rubia the Certificate of Honour of the IPA CIS on behalf of IPA CIS Council Chairperson, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.
