IPA CIS International Observers Outlined Plan of Work During Presidential Elections in Belarus for Coming Days

The IPA CIS international observers held an organizational meeting in Minsk and outlined the work schedule during the elections of the President of the Republic of Belarus. The meeting was opened by IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator, Chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs Oleg Melnichenko and IPA CIS Council Secretary General Dmitriy Kobitskiy.

Oleg Melnichenko told that 52 observers from eight IPA CIS countries would monitor the polling stations in the country and abroad.

Dmitriy Kobitskiy stressed that the majority of the observers had an extensive experience in monitoring. He noted that the activity of the international observers was based on the political impartiality, objectivity and non-interference into the electoral process and the internal affairs.

Director of the IIMDD IPA CIS Ivan Mushket briefed the participants on the schedules of the observers on the election day on 9 August 2020.

The Observer Team is expected to hold meetings with the leadership of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus on Elections and Holding Republican Referenda, representatives of civil society organizations, which nominated their observers for the elections.

On the election day, the observers will perform monitoring on the polling stations in the capital, as well as in Slutsk, Zaslawye, Maladzyechna, Smalyavichy, Zhodzina and in a number of other settlements.
