IPA CIS and OSCE/ODIHR Observers Exchanged Views on Elections in Republic of Moldova

The IPA CIS observers headed by Team Coordinator Rufat Guliyev met with Head of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) Coriene Jonker. Director of the IPA CIS International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development (IPA CIS IIMDD) Ivan Mushket, Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Aidyn Jafarov and Head of the CIS Mission headquarters Evgeniy Kozyak participated in the meeting.

Rufat Guliyev shared with the European colleagues his opinion on the course of the first round of the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova. He noted that the conclusion made by the CIS Mission following the results of the first round refers to the democratic and free nature of the voting. Rufat Guliyev also noted the high activity of the voters in the Republic of Moldova and expressed hope that tomorrow's voting would be held in an open, friendly and democratic atmosphere.

Coriene Jonker thanked the colleagues from the IPA CIS for the opportunity to meet and exchange views. She said that OSCE/ODIHR observers had been working in the Republic of Moldova for two months. Coriene Jonker presented a report to the IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator, based on the first-round observation, and the results of the monitoring preceding the vote in the run-off. She also stressed that, despite the limited nature of the monitoring, it made it possible to say that the process of the election’s preparation met the accepted democratic standards.

She also noted the good equipment of the polling stations in the Republic of Moldova and the work carried out by the election administration bodies to prevent all participants of the electoral process from contracting the coronavirus infection.

At the end of the meeting, the sides wished each other fruitful work during tomorrow's observation.
