Election to the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic has kicked off

IPA CIS international observers from early in the morning has been monitoring different ballot stations in the towns of Bishkek, Osh, and in residential communities of Chuiskaya, Oshskaya, Dzhalal-Abadskaya regions of the Kyrgyz Republic and at the ballot stations in Baku, Minsk, Moscow, and St. Petersburg.

The ballot stations opened at 8 a.m. President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambaev voted at the ballot station № 1209 in Bishkek.

According to the Head of the country, “these are the days of honest elections. Everything starts with the truth and the election must be true. People should understand their choices. Their future depends on it”.

Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Asylbek Zheenbekov voted at the ballot station № 5011 in rural area Biymyrza. Asylbek Zheenbekov hopes that the current election, carried out with the new technologies, will become the most transparent election in the history of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to Secretary General of the IPA CIS Alexey Sergeev, the IPA CIS team of observers has been monitoring the election and the up-coming period on a long-term basis; and the expert group of IIMDP of the IPA CIS concluded that the electoral legislation is in compliance with the European and world standards.

The team of observers is composed of 32 international observers from 7 member states of the IPA CIS (the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan). Among them there are deputies and representatives of the supreme legislative bodies, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Alexey Sergeev, experts from the International Institute for Monitoring Democratic and Parliamentary Process and the members of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council.

Vladimir Vityuk, the Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, was assigned the coordinator of the team of observers from the IPA CIS
