IPA CIS observers met with Speaker of the Majlisi namoyandogon of the Majlisi oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Shukurjon Zukhurov and with draftsmen of the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan

The IPA CIS international observers met with Speaker of the Majlisi namoyandogon of the Majlisi oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Shukurjon Zukhurov, Deputy Chairperson of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Social Policy and Human Rights, Chairperson of the Committee of the Majlisi namoyandogon of the Majlisi oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Social Issues, Family and Public Health Khairiniso Yusifi and members of parties represented in the Parliament of Tajikistan.

Shukurjon Zukhurov thanked the observers for their contribution in the development of democratic institutions in Tajikistan. He informed the observers that the main purpose of the constitutional reform was to ensure welfare of every citizen in the Republic.

Hermine Nagdalyan, the Observer Team Coordinator – Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia expressed confidence that the referendum would be properly organized. She also provided the expert group the report on long-term monitoring and the final statement on the compliance of the legislation of the Republic of Tajikistan with international standards.

Hermine Nagdalyan also emphasized that, according to the expert analysis, the citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan had duly informed about possible amendments to the Constitution and that the preparation for the referendum had complied with the international commitments of the Republic of Tajikistan in the electoral area.

After the meeting, the Observer Team Coordinator talked to the media and informed them that the observer team included 33 members from 7 IPA CIS states (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia).

Members of the Observer Mission also held a meeting with the authors of the proposed amendments to the Constitution.
