Youth Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations held its 10th anniversary meeting in the Tavricheskiy palace

The headquarters of the IPA CIS hosted the10th commemorative meeting of the Youth Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (YIPA CIS). The meeting was dedicated to the Year of the Family in the CIS countries.

Coordinator of the YIPA CIS, Member of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhamangulov, opened the session. He mentioned that the session was held in a broader format, the delegations from Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan attended the session for the first time together with YIPA CIS members.

Sergey Antufiev, Acting Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council, delivered a welcome address at the opening ceremony. “Youth Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations was established five years ago. It can be confidently said that the Youth Interparliamentary Assembly is successful and brings together more and more active and motivated people every year”, he said.

Sergey Antufiev highlighted the fact that the session of the YIPA CIS was dedicated to the Year of the Family in the CIS countries. He expressed the wish that the members of the YIPA CIS would become youth policy advocates in their respective countries, initiate ambitious reforms and make every effort to protect and promote the age-old traditions of good-neighborly relations and friendship between the CIS peoples and countries.

The 10th anniversary meeting of the YIPA CIS focused on the issues of the protection of family, promoting family values among the youth, and defining key vectors of parliamentary efforts in this area.

Invited experts from the CIS Board on Statistics reported on the current status of families in the CIS.

The meeting also considered the draft Recommendations on the Mechanisms of On-line Democracy Development in the CIS, the reports on the results of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students and the 5th International Cultural and Educational Forum of the CIS countries “Children of the Commonwealth”. In addition the participants discussed the work plan for 2018.

Within the business program, the participants will visit the "SOS Pushkin - A Child Village” where they will discuss the strengthening of families and learn about the unique model of upbringing of orphans and children deprived of parental care. They will also visit the Nakhimov Naval School, where the young parliamentary delegations will meet with the administration and students and discuss the issues related to the military-patriotic education.
