Valentina Matvienko suggested the UN to recognize the victory over Nazism the world heritage of humanity

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council; Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko proposed the idea to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The meeting was held in the IPA CIS HQ within the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

In addition, Valentina Matvienko supported the recognition of monuments to the fighters against Nazism in all countries by the World War II memorial. She noted that the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation plans to address the United Nations with an initiative to recognize the victory over Nazism as the world heritage of humanity.

IPA CIS Council Chairperson also reminded the UN SG Antonio Guterres about the upcoming holiday — the International Day of Parliamentarism, which this year will be celebrated for the second time in the world.

Valentina Matvienko noted that the IPA CIS joint with IPU played an important role in the appearance of this day in the international calendar of festive dates.
