Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Irina Sokolova was elected the Chairperson of St. Petersburg Public Chamber of the second convocation. The Chairperson named public health and employment issues as the priority tasks for the Public Chamber, as well as the preparation for monitoring of the voting on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation. The Public Chamber is an instrument of civilian control, which provides communication between the authorities and society in resolving the most important issues of economic and social development, protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens, and the development of democratic institutions. The Chamber includes 63 volunteers.

Parliament of Republic of Moldova Set a Date for Presidential Elections – 1 November 2020

Today at its plenary session, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova set a date of presidential elections. The voting will take place on 1 November.

The decision was taken in accordance with the Article 78 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and Article 109 of the Electoral Code.

The term of the President of the Republic of Moldova expires on 23 December 2020. The Parliament shall decide on the date of the elections of the President of the Republic of Moldova at least 60 days prior to the election day.

The decision taken by the MPs of the Republic of Moldova will enter into force on 15 August 2020.
