CIS Parliamentarians Make Donations to Support Fight Against Coronavirus

Parliamentarians of several CIS countries decided to transfer a part of their wages to funds to support fight against COVID-19.

Particularly, leadership of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic, committee members and also Secretariat staff members gave donations to the Fund to Support Fight Against Coronavirus, which was created under the Presidential Decree “On measures regarding the protection of the health of the population and strengthening the fight against coronavirus infection in the Azerbaijan Republic” of 19 March 2020. Resources of the Fund will be used for creating special regime health facilities, remuneration of health workers and provision of material assistance, improvement of infrastructure and technical capability of hospitals.

Deputies of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia also donate their March bonuses for similar activities.

Parliamentarians of the Republic of Kazakhstan also shared their daily salary with the Fund to Support Fight Against Coronavirus. These funds are shifted to implement measures to combat COVID-19 in Nur-Sultan and Almaty, which are quarantined.

Deputy of the Jogorku Keneshof the Kyrgyz Republic Kamchybek Zholdoshbaev expressed his readiness to shift one million Kyrgyzstani soms to support the fight against coronavirus. These funds will help ensure the implementation of measures to prevent the spread of the infection in the country. Deputies of the Bir Bol parliament faction also declared that they would transfer their monthly wages on the account of the Republican Staff on Fight Against Coronavirus.

The parliaments of most CIS Member Nations a number of procedural restrictions aimed at combating the spread of COVID-19 has already been introduced. Plenary meetings and foreign trips of deputies are temporarily canceled, a mode of operation using remote access technologies is introduced, the health status of visitors is checked, etc.
