IPA CIS Representatives Took Part in Third Intersessional Meeting on Preparations for Special Session of UN General Assembly Against Corruption

On 22 February 2021, the Third Intersessional Meeting of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption on the Preparations for the Special Session of the General Assembly (UNGASS) Against Corruption kicked off in Vienna in a mixed format.

On behalf of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat the meeting was attended by Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation Maksimillian Selyutin and Secretary of the Joint Commission at the IPA CIS for the Harmonization of National Laws Related to Security, Countering Emerging Threats and Challenges Stanislav Korostelev as observers.

The participants from Egypt, Lebanon, the United States and other countries noted the transnational nature of corruption, as well as the need for information exchange between countries, and the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to the issues. In this regard, great importance should be attached to international cooperation in terms of asset recovery and measures taken to combat corruption.

Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation to the UN Andrei Avetisyan noted that the text of the declaration presented on public display is hardly applicable to the fieldwork in combating corruption.

The meeting participants noted that the goals of a comprehensive fight against corruption had not been fully achieved, therefore it is necessary to continue the work.
