Kazakhstan to Assume CIS Chairmanship in 2022 Upon Decision of Heads of State

Today, a meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State chaired by President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko took place via videoconferencing.

The meeting brought together President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilkham Aliev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomar Tokaev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Natalya Gavrilița, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The Heads of State exchanged their views on cooperation within the framework of the Commonwealth, adopted the decision to transfer the CIS Presidency to Kazakhstan in 2022.

In addition, the Heads of State also adopted the Statement on the 30th Anniversary of the Commonwealth. The document draws the outcomes of the Commonwealth activities, evaluates its role in strengthening of statehood of each member, preserving and developing economic, humanitarian and cultural and historical ties that build on the common interests and background.

The members of the Council also adopted the Statement on Cooperation in the Field Ensuring Biological Safety, the  Statement on Developing of Cooperation in the Field of Migration, the Agreement on Establishment of the Council of the CIS Heads of Supreme Court and the Agreement on Countering the Legalization (Laundering) of Proceeds of Crime, the Financing of Terrorism and the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

According to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, the CIS Heads of State declared the Moldovan city Komrat the CIS Cultural Capital in 2022.
