Valentina Matvienko: Nevsky Congress Will Contribute to Development of International Cooperation in Field of Ecology

National delegations are arriving in St. Petersburg to participate in the Ninth Nevsky International Ecological Congress. The event will bring together the representatives of the IPA CIS Member Nations and other countries at the IPA CIS headquarters.

Co-chair of the NIEC Organizing Committee, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko spoke about the potential of this event for sharing experience and cooperation development in the field of environmental protection.

The Speaker of the Federation Council believes that environmental problems and climate change were among the most important modern challenges. According to Valentina Matvienko, Russia could become a driver of the international environmental and climate agenda. She said the Congress was aimed at developing international cooperation in the field of ecology. She also stressed that the organizers of the event (the Federation Council, the IPA CIS, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation) would do their best to achieve practical results during the Congress. Valentina Matvienko noted that the resolutions and recommendations adopted at the NIEC were later implemented in the laws.
