Meeting of the Organizing Committee of the international congress Road Safety for the Safety of Life in Moscow

President of the Organizing Committee Valentina Matvienko opened the session. She stressed that the upcoming congress will focus on legal tools to improve the efficiency of traffic-related NGOs and, on top of that, boost various forms of civic involvement in the road police operations and the related decisions in this field.

She underlined the need to host the Congress with a high quality and extensive participation of international partners.

According to Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, the decisions of the preceding congresses are being successfully implemented. Recommendations of the V Congress were lavishly reflected in the adoption of key federal laws on more severe liability of drunk drivers and better fine-collection system, and other road traffic regulations.

Valentina Matvienko shared on positive statistics of road accidents while noting the lack of a streamlined approach among NGOs and low engagement with authorities.

"It is key to ensure a multilateral exchange of opinions and make contributions during the Congress interesting and constructive. At an early stage, we need to think on live sessions with the regions, especially those having the most successful track record in road safety".

Minister of the Interior of the Russian Federation Vladimir Kolokoltsev and Governor of St. Petersburg Vladimir Poltavchenko spoke on a focus on innovations during the Congress and the relevance of the topics expected to be discussed.

Deputy Head of Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Sergey Kurdin attended the meeting.
