The CIS Anti-Terrorism Center to step up fighting against cyber terrorism

The CIS Anti-Terrorism Center will firmly resist subversive activity in cyberspace, said Head of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center Andrey Novikov.

According to Andrey Novikov, in the recent 10 years the anti-terrorism agenda has included the possible use of advanced IT technologies by terrorists. The threat has been growing significantly in recent years.

The Head of the CIS Anti-Terrorism also turned attention to the technological potential of modern cybercrimes, their anonymity and far-reaching effects. These factors completely change our understanding of cyberterrorism, thus our countermeasures must be changed as well. Andrey Novikov also emphasized the importance of implementing new technologies for terrorism risk identification and eliminating terror threats. Moreover, the state and the business community are equally responsible for the implementation of these technologies.

Andrey Novikov highlighted the international cooperation experience, like for example joint exercises of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center and the Committee for State Security of the Republic of Belarus. The exercises took place in May and in June and were attended by special force units of security bodies from the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation.

According to Andrey Novikov, the exercises allowed to make a model of possible cyber-attack and to find out solutions aimed at increasing regional security.
